Into the Vampire City by Phil Tucker: A Review

This book is about 17-year-old Selah Brown, a Brooklyn teenager who moves to the vampire city of Miami Find her dad who went missing. The book takes you straight into the action with her arriving to the city. The story was exciting and there was lots of action.

The Good
I liked Selah, it was refreshing to have a character that was a little bit different to your typical pretty, ditsy girl as a lead female character. She is a strong character which added lots to the story.
There were lots of characters to get to know, for me this is a good thing but I realise it may be confusing for others to read. Phil Tucker gives a great description of what the city looks like and combined with my imagination I was able to envisage what I imagine it would look like.

The Bad
I wanted to love this book and I should have! It is quite rare for me to dislike a book but I just had real trouble with this one. I was unable to connect with any of the characters really which is upsetting. I was quite bored quite quickly and I found the story slightly predictable.
I wish that there was more of a focus on the  resistance than there was.
I couldn't believe any of the relationships within the book which made the entire story a bit of a laugh.

I will leave it there as I don't want to rant on about it too much more. I will say however that this book has many great reviews on goodreads and amazon so maybe it is a Marmite type of book. Personally I would not recommend this book over other books however I am always up for trying something new to read so i guess you win some you lose some.

What do you think?

Keep Calm on Manic Mondays

For the past few days my work has been busy to say the least! Everyone is running around like crazy people. I however am trying to remain calm and focused in-between colleges shouting and stressing. I have compiled a few hints and tips on what i think is the best way to keep your head on stressful days.

1. Don't make a drama - It's really easy to make a big deal out of something small ( I know because I do it) but by doing that you are not helping yourself or the situation. Slow down, Think Logically and come to a sensible solution. 9 times out of 10 it's not as bad as you think

2.  Discover what it is that keeps you calm - for me its day dreaming about my up coming trip to somewhere exotic or day dreaming about Theo James         ( That definitely works - feel free to borrow this one)

Thinking of something else means your not thinking about whatever got you stressed in the first place/

3. Get enough sleep - Sounds silly but when your tired you can become irrational and that doesn't help anyone.

4.  Ignore  - If like me you get stressed out by other people then the best thing is to ignore it. When other people get stressed or dramatise a situation it stresses me out so I prefer to lave the room (politely) or try to zone out and think about something else.

5. Laugh or Smile - you can not do either of these things while being stressed out.

That is just a few things that I thought of  im sure there are many more tips that you guys use

Wedding Dress Shopping

Personally I don't really enjoy shopping for clothes so when my best friend invited me wedding dress shopping I wasn't looking forward to it as much as I should have been. It was the first time that I had been shopping for something as big as a wedding dress for someone else.
We had made appointments in two shops. The first was a lovely little shop with tons of dresses. The lady picked out a few different styles and got my friend into the changing room while me and her sister sat and waited. All of the dresses were stunning so it was all about picking the most stunning dress for her body shape. We quickly whittled them down to one amazing dress that she loved. this is where the dilemma came in. Should she then go and try more dresses on?

We decided yes and went to the second shop which was a much bigger store with lots of dresses. the lady there made picking out dresses a team event and we all got involved. I picked a dress out with a bit of drama going on, a low waist and a beautiful princess skirt. My friend then tried them on.

Now here is a tip for anyone accompanying a bride to be to pick the most important dress of her life. When she puts on a dress that not only leaves you speechless but her too and she doesn't want to take it off you know you have got the one. you can tell!! there was no question about it that dress was made for her!!

The problem now is stopping her from putting it on every chance that she gets!!

Tell me about your dress picking stories, id love to read them

Beautiful Bath

Yesterday I got up late and was wondering what would be fun to do for a few hours. In the end we popped into Bath which is just 20 minutes from where I live. Since I moved to the area 6 years ago, bath has been the closest city to me and I have taken it for granted and so I decided to take this opportunity to big up Bath. Here are a few reasons Bath is great.

Its Beautiful

I don't know much about old buildings and architecture but I do know that the buildings in bath are some of the prettiest I have seen.
There is the Abbey which is stunning but so are lots of the other buildings around and about. The weir is beautiful and dramatic, Pulteney weir is so visually stunning in fact that it was used in the filming of Les Miserables.

Lots to do

Like all cities Bath has lots of fun and interesting things to do both day time and night time. There are tons of great restaurants to choose from with lots of different styles of food. The Roman Baths, Thermae Spa, Royal Crescent and  the Abbey itself will keep you busy all day but if you still have energy by the nigh time there is a lively night life.

There are not as many shops in Bath as there are in larger cities however there are far more pretty little boutiques where you can stumble upon a special find. I love shopping in bath for unique gifts and interesting items.

I'm 100% sure i have left loads of things out but this was my snippet on why Bath is great, I hope you liked it
